Updated Skincare Routine
I was going through my old blog posts and doing some cleanouts when I noticed the last time I went through all of my skincare with you guys was two years ago! Two whole years and almost every single product on that list has changed. Now, it is a little bit of bad timing to do this post now when I am in the process of switching some things up, but I figured this would be a good way to show what I was doing and liking, and then I can follow up in a few months and show what has changed? Sound like a plan?
I have sensitive, dry, acne-prone skin. My skin type dramatically around 21 or 22 and it has been a pain to find the products that work the best ever since. I currently have a pretty good regiment, but I have noticed that there are certain things that could be done better. I have been looking into Korean skincare lately and think I might replace my whole regime, or at least parts of it, with some of those amazing products, so stay tuned!
I am obviously not a dermatologist or expert; these are just my thoughts and opinions and things I have learned from my own research.
Youth to the People Superfood Cleanser- I really enjoy this cleanser! This is one thing that hasn’t changed since my last post and for good reason. I only use it at night (I just rinse with water in the morning) and it does a good job of keeping my skin nice and clear. I haven’t seen much change in tone or texture and it can leave my skin feeling a little dry right after I use it, especially in winter. But overall, it keeps my pores clear and my breakouts to a minimum!
Ole Henriksen Strength Trainer Peptide Boost Moisturizer- I really love this moisturizer! I use this as my morning moisturizer and I really have noticed a difference in my texture and hydration. It is a gel/cream/ kind of balm texture that melts into the skin really nicely and doesn’t leave it feeling greasy or gross. This makes a great daytime cream, and in the summer I will use it at night often since I usually need less during the summer.
Farmacy Filling Good HA Plumping Serum- I use this every morning and at night if I use my Ole Henriksen moisturizer and I cannot get enough! If I swap put my whole routine, this will not be one that goes. I used to use The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid (HA) serum and even though it did help with moisture a bit, it really did not do much else. This one helps with moisture, helps with fine lines, and makes my skin look nice and dewy. I apply it on a damp face like any other HA serum, and then once it dries I add moisturizer over the top of it. Cannot get enough of this one!
Super Goop Unseen Sunscreen- This sunscreen is great! I really had no issues with it at all until I saw a bunch of people post on Tik Tok that it might be the reason for added texture and breakouts. A quick Goole revealed that was in fact true and a lot of people are reporting this as an issue, and these are two issues I struggle with a lot, so I am definitely looking into finding a new everyday sunscreen to see if this changes! Overall though, I do like how it feels on my face (like absolutely nothing) and it lays very well under makeup! Until I saw that Tik Tok I really had nothing negative to say about this product, and hopefully I can keep on using it!
Summer Fridays Light Aura Vitamin C Eye Cream- I have just recently started using this eye cream and have not seen any benefits yet. The last one I used was the Avocado Retinol Eye Melt from Glow Recipe and even though it didn’t do anything bad to my under eyes, it really just did not deliver on anything it claimed. Hence the switch, and hence the very few opinions so far. It has only been about a week or so of use so it’s hard to say. But I am hopeful it will help brighten up my under eyes! My favorite is still the Algenist Renewal Balm and if this one doesn’t work, I am just going to fork over the money for that one again. I use this guy every night before bed, and then in the morning if I am not going to do any under-eye concealer.
Glossier After Baume- This stuff is a holy grail product for me. Even if I switch out most of my other products, this one will stay even if it’s not for nightly use like it is now. I do alternate this one out a little now that the weather is getting warmer and the air isn’t so horribly dry, but I still use it a few times a week! My moisture barrier has never been better, and the tone of my skin is way better than it has been in years. The only downside of this product is that it is such a heavy cream, I do find myself getting little clogged pores here and there. But the benefits I have seen from it have been so great it’s hard to let a couple of clogged pores turn me away from it. It’s perfect for winter and a long day out in freezing temps, but it is also so soothing to use after a long day out in the sun as well. It’s perfect for everything.
Drunk Elephant Bouncy Bright Facial- This is another holy grail product I will not be getting rid of! I found this one recently, and it is by far the priciest thing on this list. But the price point is worth it for how well it works! I use it every other night since I have sensitive skin, but it is supposed to be gentle enough for everyday use, so do with that what you will. It has helped brighten my skin, clear my pores, limit breakout, make my skin texture more even, and helped to lighten dark spots. All in one nifty little serum/cream?! It’s amazing! Buy it now and thank me later when you look as bright and bouncy as you have always wanted to!
Garnier Micellar Water- This is what I use for makeup remover and I love it. It is gentle enough on my skin that it doesn’t piss my skin off when I use it, and it gets off any and all makeup I wore that day. I do not wear a lot of foundation or other face makeup of that nature, and if I did I would probably use a cleansing balm, but this works out perfectly for me and I love it. I take my makeup with this and little reusable bamboo rounds!
Farmacy Niacinamide Night Mask with Vitamin B- I was, unfortunately, using this as a nightly moisturizer and was then wondering why my skin was so red and irritated when a lovely woman at Sephora pointed out this is 10% niacinamide and way too much to use for most people nightly. Whoops! Once I started using this once or twice a week, as I should have been, I really noticed the full benefits. My skin was much more glowy the mornings after I used it, and my pores were smaller and less noticeable. It was also supposed to help with texture but I really did not notice that specific benefit. It does have a very thick texture, but absorbs well, and kind of feels like slugging!
Youth to the People Super Clay Purify and Power Mask- This is a very powerful mask that does irritate my skin if I am not careful. I quit using it all over my face, and really only use it in certain spots, like my chin and nose, where I get the most blackheads and breakouts. If you have sensitive skin, definitely use it in this way, because otherwise, you will get some redness and irritation all over your face which no one wants. Using it in these small doses has been very helpful in these areas though!
Hero Cosmetics Pimple Patches- These are pretty self-explanatory: put them on an active pimple without popping it, sleep with it on, and viola! Pimple is much better and goes away much quicker. These guys are a lifesaver and I will never stop using them.
Thank you for following along through all of this today! I think once we come into fall I will post an update on the products I switched and how I like them/ new results/ if they were worth it etc, and which ones I kept! I have another mellow post coming up for you guys next week and then I am headed to Hawaii for over a week I have so much fun content and fun shoots planned so stay tuned for those!
