Back to Basics
I know the outfit you are all about to see is not the typical Madey outfit: there are no prints, no odd color combos, or odd silhouette mixtures. But! When I am not wearing my more outlandish outfits, I am usually rocking something like this. I am a huge fan of everyday basics and this specific outfit is my go-to when I am having no inspiration to get dressed or when I don’t want to get dressed but I have to. A good, white tank top/t-shirt is a staple for any wardrobe so you can achieve a classic look in a number of ways. Keep scrolling to see one of my favorite go-to outfits!
If you are interested in fashion at all, you have probably heard bloggers and magazines tell you to cultivate a collection of “good basics” for a while now. And I am here as yet another blogger to tell you that they are all right! Having several basics to pull from and create outfits with can really help when you are not feeling inspired to create an outfit. For those who are maybe a little confused, when someone refers to a “basic” in their wardrobe, they are talking about the super simple pieces that everyone has. A white t-shirt/tank top, black t-shirt/tanktop, striped tee, a good pair of jeans, a good pair of sneakers, and so forth.
For me, a good basic I always need is a pair of classic black and white high top Converse. I have loved Converse and wore them since I was old enough to be able to pick out my own shoes. They used to be the only shoes I wore, and even though I have branched out since then, they are still a favorite of mine to wear with everything. They make a great summer sneaker for whatever you are wearing them with.
I was really against any jeans that weren’t skinny since I entered high school in 2010. Skinny jeans are still my favorite, but these boyfriend/mom/boot cut whatever you want to call them jeans are so comfy and I love them in the summer. I don’t have a lot of shape when it comes to how my body is built so playing with the silhouette is a great way to create shape. Tighter tops with looser bottoms give the illusion I have more of a waist and also break up my frame a bit when I want it to. They work perfectly in the winter as well since I can throw a sweater on with these jeans and toss on some docs! Then it becomes very 90s and comfy.
This is a pretty basic, white tank top, nothing really special, but it fits amazing and is so soft! Plus I can wear it without a bra so that’s always a win in my book.
I’ll be back tomorrow with another fashion post, so follow me on Instagram @mermaidmadey so you can stay up to date on when that post goes live! Stay safe everyone!
